Rice Square

Rice Square is a neighborhood found in East Worcester, sandwiched in between Vernon Hill, Union Hill and Broad Meadow Brook. Like much of Worcester's residential real estate, many of the homes in this area were built before 1939, giving the neighborhood a historic feel. The residential real estate in Rice Square is occupied by both homeowners and renters, but primarily by renters. The average real estate price of Rice Square is currently estimated to be $190,985, while the mean cost of rental property in Rice Square is estimated to be $761. Real estate in Rice Square is mainly comprised of small (studio to two bedrooms) and medium (three or four bedrooms) apartment buildings and single-family homes. Some of the older Victorian-style homes in the neighborhood have been renovated into multi-unit apartment buildings.

Rice Square is surrounded by outdoor opportunities. To the east, there is the Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Restriction, which is accessed off of Massasoit Road. At over 400 acres, Broad Meadow Brook is the largest urban nature sanctuary in New England. It has more than five miles of marked trails for hiking. Gaskill Field, a local playground and park, is to the west of Rice Square. Gaskill Field functions as a home to the Worcester Academy's athletics program.
